Visual Studio provides a large amount of information and capabilities that relate to your code.
Through thoughtful reduction in user interface complexity, and by the introduction of new experience patterns that simplify common workflows, we’ve targeted what we observed to be three major hurdles to developer efficiency. Obviously you need to spend some time orienting yourself to your code and tools, but wouldn’t it be good to spend more time adding new value to your applications? In Visual Studio 11 we’ve focused on giving you back more time by streamlining your development experience. This is based on observations we’ve made in our research labs and observations that other independent researchers have made (for example, take a look at this paper). We know that developers often spend more of their time than they would like orienting themselves to the project and tools they are working with and, in some cases, only about 15% of their time actually writing new code. We’ve worked hard on them over the last two years and believe that they will significantly improve the experience that you will have with Visual Studio. In this blog post (and the one that will follow) we’d like to introduce a few of the broad reaching experience improvements that we’ve delivered in Visual Studio 11.
